Maybe you’ve been wondering – again – where I’ve been? Well, I had two fairly major efforts underway here, which required a fair bit of research, coordination and activity to accomplish. But now I’m done, and looking forward to a quieter season. I’m now officially saying “no” to things that come up, regardless of how enticing or intriguing they appear, even while the girls are starting to say “yes”, because they no longer need me to drive them around. All I have to do is stay awake long enough for them to return home, though, and listen to them tell me about their adventures, which works out just fine for me.
We successfully navigated our first Homemaker’s Bazaar last weekend, garnering praise from the other clubs for our presentation, at least. We went with baked goods at the end, because most of the women are not very crafty, but most of them can bake, at least a little. We made a few mistakes, but we well exceeded our hoped-for financial target, and there was a lot of happy dancing when we counted up the till. So, that’s all good.
My other project has been applying for the VA’s Caregiver Support Program. That wanted lots of introspective review of how, exactly, our lives have changed, and what I do for Davey to smooth his way. That was a sad project, and one that made me cry more than once for all we’ve lost, but I was well prepared for the interview and didn’t hold anything back, which upset Davey slightly, even though he knew what was coming. It’s hard, I guess, to hear some things said out loud for strangers. Anyway, I finished my training this week, and have nothing else to do for that until the nurse’s home visit next month. Then we should be all approved and… supported. 🙂
Other than that, I’ve been working away at Christmas gifts and enjoying the process. It’s kind of fun to make things, even though my making-things area is on a main thoroughfare and frequently becomes a dumping spot for random items that have no particular home. It’s a hard-knock life.
It’s very cold here today, and no one particularly cares to go outside more often than necessary. We even had a slight dusting of snow yesterday! The little ones have come down every morning this week, asking about snowfall amounts, even though there is none in the forecast. They are hoping desperately for enough accumulation to make things like snowballs and snow angels.
And we found a large black widow in our laundry pile yesterday! We haven’t even been hanging them outside, so I don’t know where she came from. Hopefully, she came in on a load of wood, because I’d hate to think we have a little black widow cottage somewhere in here. I’ll try not to stress about it too much, though Delaney did say this morning, “Good thing she hadn’t crawled into a pant leg or something!” Good thing, indeed.
So how have you been? Lots of you have been quiet lately and I miss you.
