My Favorite Christmas Gift

042-8x10

Meggie knit me some socks!  I think sock knitters are amazing, and givers of knit socks incredibly generous.  They’re really warm, and a lovely gray, and I show them off to everybody I meet.  Which is perhaps a little weird, but… she knit me socks!

They’ll get lots of use in the next few days, too.  It’s 5° out right now, and just a few more minutes to milking time.  Monday, it looks like it won’t even clear zero, which is highly unusual around here.  Like, I’ve never seen it stay that cold all day in the five years I’ve lived here.  And this has been a more mild winter, too!

Update: Meggie says she got the pattern from Knit Socks! by Betsy McCarthy.  You can probably find this one at the library, and the instructions in this series are usually pretty straightforward.  🙂

  1. I agree that Meggie is very generous because gifting hand knit socks is gifting from the heart. They take soooo long to make, and to give them away is like giving time. God love her sweet heart. Get those socks ready girl, I think winter is going to be quite a ride.

  2. PS will Meggie share her pattern source? I love how those look!

  3. That’s amazing! Those look really hard. How talented and thoughtful she is!

  4. Wow! Those socks are simply beautiful! Meggie is quite a knitter. I have never attempted to make socks, (I know me and I would probably end up with one sock and never get around to the other one!), but I’m with Barbara and would love to have the pattern, just in case. What a special gift!

  5. Those look really warm and comfy! I spend a lot of time in the winter with cold feet, and what I wouldn’t give for a good warm pair of socks that don’t fall apart after a few washings! Congrats to Meggie on her talent at knitting!

  6. Wow! What a gift. Those socks are beautiful. I have tried to knit a pair of socks and almost finished the first one. Maybe this will be the year I finish them considering I’ve been “knitting” them for like 3 years.

  7. Pattern info is in the post body now, ladies! I haven’t attempted socks, either, because I was also pretty sure I’d never knit the second one. 🙂

    1. There is a way to knit two at the same time, which is awesome! This looks like the method I use:

  8. I just read an article that there’s an Arctic Freeze coming down into the midwest and making it all the way to the Gulf coast by tomorrow or Monday, so everything is going to be cold for the remainder of the winter, what with most bodies of water freezing over the next two days and NEVER THAWING OUT until spring. Sorry 🙁

  9. Those are gorgeous socks! A wonderful Christmas gift, indeed!

  10. Two thumbs up for the socks! Awesome gift!
