Baby feet

We’re going to keep Daisy on antibiotics for a few more days, even though I think she’s had enough.  My vet wasn’t in today, but left instructions, so I’ll follow them!  I have two doses of the pain medication, too, so if she gets bad again, we can offer her some relief.  But right now, she seems to be holding her own.

We built the frame for our last chicken crate today.  Tomorrow, we’ll put on the wire and the roof, and then the last chickens can move in.  That’s five crates of chickens in the field.  Whew.  I have to design some kind of turkey crate, too, because they’re ready to get out of their brooder, as well.  That’s a job for this afternoon, so I can get the fittings purchased.

Also tomorrow, Rosie and I (with Evie, of course) will be going on a date!  I’ve been taking the children out sporadically for a couple of years now, and it makes them so happy to have this private time with me.  And they tell absolutely everyone, “Mommy and me are on a date!”  It’s so sweet and fun.  And as well as we know each other, I always learn something new about them when we’re away from the hustle and bustle of our large-family life.  It’s good, and I’m so glad that we’re at an age where this is feasible.  I never could have managed this when we were all little, but now that we have so many capable teens, I can leave for a couple of hours, a whole day, or even an overnight (though I haven’t tried it yet. Should work, in theory!)

About Jennie Cooper

I'm the mother of eight children, the wife of a retired soldier, and a newly minted farmer. I spend my days fairly productively, home educating our children, raising large quantities of food for several families, and volunteering in our community. I read entire novels a page at a time in the comfort of my bathroom. I tell people I'm Catholic just because they find it so shocking. I think there's nothing so exciting as a thunderstorm coming in. It doesn't bother me at all that my dog barks outside my bedroom window all night. And I rather enjoy being 40. I didn't think I would, but 40 is pretty good.

With Davey’s military schedule and our children’s young ages, we were never able to do it before, but it is so worthwhile. We have lunch somewhere (child’s choice) and spend some time at a mutually enjoyable activity. Jonny went to the Lego show, Tommy took a walk in the park, Penny went shopping for a scrapbook, and Meggie browsed a luxury yarn shop. Rosie is going to the movies, though she doesn’t know it yet. 🙂 It usually only costs me between $20 and $40 dollars, and I only go on dates a few times a year, but it is such a blessing to all of us. 🙂

Glad to hear Daisy is holding her own.
Jen – there is something so beautiful and adorable about baby feet!!! I just love the picture.
I hope you, Evie and Rosie Posie have a wonderful day.
    Love you all,

Glad to hear Daisy is still on her feet. She is a tough old girl.

Faith doesn’t know how lucky she is…every day is a mommy date. Of course, she is also the only one who catches mommy’s wrath most days, too. That poor littlest one!

That is a downside. 🙂 I have hopes that Evie’s siblings will live close enough that she’ll be able to visit with her nieces and nephews fairly often, so that she’ll be able to develop the same closeness with her siblings. Tough, with such a large age range! But hopefully, that’ll help mitigate her having to spend most of her time alone with me. 🙂

Or maybe another baby will come along soon to keep her company. That’d work, too. 😉
