About Me

Hi!  I’m Jennie, and I’m very pleased to meet you.

Allow me to introduce myself.

I am a homeschooling mama of eight (!!!) children.  Whew!  If you’d asked me twenty years ago how many children I wanted, I’d have said, “One!” But, my goodness.  I had that first one, my Brenna, who is eighteen now, and I said to my husband, “We have got to do this again!”  And so we did.  Again and again and again.  These children have been such a blessing to us, and I’m so grateful for (almost) every minute I’ve gotten to spend with them.  Now, I’m 42 years old and my youngest is just about to celebrate her first birthday.  I sometimes think I might be a little crazy.

David is my husband and we’ve been married for twenty years now.  Most of that time, he was serving in the United States Army.  We’ve traveled pretty far from our native New Jersey because of his career, living in Colorado, Germany, Illinois, Georgia, and now Kentucky.  We’ve also weathered quite a few deployments, and all the heartache that goes with them.  I can’t watch videos of soldiers’ homecomings anymore.  It hurts too much.  But I still like the Army Strong song.

We retired in 2012 to a little homestead-style farm near Fort Knox.  I run a small raw milk dairy, which you can find here, and we raise beef, chicken, pork, lamb, eggs and veggies besides.  That’s how we feed all the children organic food!

I don’t really like to be idle, so I’m always working on a project, and usually learning something new.  Somebody asked me once, “Is there anything you can’t do?”  I thought for a moment, and then replied, “If there is, and I need to know how, I’ll learn!”  As soon as I master one thing, I move right on to the next.

I can knit and crochet, sew and quilt, and lots of other things.  I’m a really good cook and an excellent picker of books.  The laundry never gets away from me, but I seldom mop and there or may not be cobwebs dangling from my ceiling.  I’m learning to make cheese and reading about the revolutionary war.  Most nights, I go to bed early with a baby in one arm and a book in the other.

I know lots about raising children, home education, nutrition, and figuring out how to work around faults.  That’s why I blog.  I have stuff to share!  🙂

What else do you want to know?  I’m an open book.  You can email me anytime.

Thanks for visiting with me, and I look forward to getting to know you!

Love,

Jennie

This was a fun treat to find! I haven’t clicked on your “about me” tab in awhile (or maybe ever on this particular blog). It was fun to read though, and when I got finished, I thought, “All of that is exactly why I’ve enjoyed following Jennie’s blog for so long!” I love benefiting from the wisdom of your tried and true experience while my youngest is not-quite-eight yet. And I love that I also feel like you haven’t forgotten what it’s like to have a bunch of littles because you still have that too!

Your comment on Minnesota Mom was how I found your site. Was a Navy Hospital Corpsman from 1951 until retiring in 1971. Been to Korea and Vietnam. Helped treat and care, in Vietnam, for casualties of the Army 9th Brigade 1. I and Mary celebrated or 51st wedding anniversary last December. Our birthays were in 1933. Four children, one girl and three boys. We’ve been living in Kansas since 1990.
